  • Development of Molecular Marker Technologies.
  • Use of Molecular Markers for the Establishment of Genetic Maps.
  • Map-based Cloning of Agronomically Important Genes.
  • Establishment of Bacterial Artificial Chromosome (BAC) Libraries, Physical Mapping.
  • Next Generation Sequencing of Fungal Genomes.

Gene Expression Profiling of Humans, Animals and Plants

  • Genome-wide, quantitative Gene Expression Profiling with patented SuperSAGE Technology in Cells, Tissues and Organs of Different Animals (including Man), Plants and Fungi, without and with the simultaneous Analysis of Pathogen, Parasite and Commensal Transcriptomes.


  • Plants: Various Legumes (e.g. Chickpea, Cowpea, Lentil, Beans, Groundnut, Peas, Medicago truncatula), Yams (various Dioscorea species), Rice, Olives, Sugar Cane,Physcomitrella patens, Barley, Mango.
  • Various pathogenic Ascochyta species (e.g. Ascochyta rabiei, A. lentis, A. pisi, and others), Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (yam anthracnose).

Further Activities

Scientific Advisor for GenXPro GmbH, a spin-off of Frankfurt University, located at the Frankfurt Innovation Center (FIZ) Biotechnology, Altendörferallee 3 in Frankfurt am Main.

European Union (EU ERA-PG LEGRESIST, EU Grainlegumes IP, EU INCO-CTAquarhiz), BMBF (GABI-Precise), International Atomic Energy Agency Vienna (IAEA 302-D2-GFR.DNA probes/primers), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Ka332/22-1).

International Activities:

Organization of the Workshop ?Mutation Screening? at the Plant and Animal Genome (PAG) Conference in San Diego (USA) from 2003 on for a total of 10 years.
