A8: Interacting magnons and critical behaviour of bosons (Kopietz)

In this project we shall study static and dynamic properties of interacting Bose gases using field theoretical methods such as diagrammatic perturbation theory and renormalisation group methods. We shall pay particular attention to the realisation of a Bose gas in magnetic insulators, where the bosons are realised as magnons, and fundamental properties of the interacting Bose gas such as Bose-Einstein condensation or the quantum dynamics of an interacting Bose gas under the influence of an external field can be studied.
The project gives theoretical support for the experimental projects by Wolf/Lang (B1), where Bose condensation is studied experimentally, and the experimental project by Hillebrands/Serha (A7), where magnon gases under non-equilibrium conditions in a ferromagnet are investigated. There is some thematic overlap with theoretical projects Hofstetter (A3) and Fleischhauer/Eggert (A5).
